Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Bugatti Tourbillon are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Tourbillon has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Tourbillon has standard GPS Response System, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Tourbillon and the McLaren GTS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and rearview cameras.

The Bugatti Tourbillon weighs 1036 pounds more than the McLaren GTS. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Tourbillon comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car. The GTS’ 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Bugatti pays for scheduled maintenance on the Tourbillon for 1 year and unlimited miles longer than McLaren pays for maintenance for the GTS (4/unlimited vs. 3/unlimited).

Engine

The Tourbillon’s 8.3 DOHC V16 hybrid produces 1149 more horsepower (1775 vs. 626) and 568 lbs.-ft. more torque (1033 vs. 465) than the McLaren GTS’ 4.0 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Tourbillon can travel with zero emissions for 37 miles. The McLaren GTS can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Tourbillon’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission and Drivetrain

An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Bugatti Tourbillon, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the McLaren GTS.

All wheel drive, available in the Tourbillon, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The McLaren GTS is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

The Tourbillon has standard air brakes, which adjust the rear spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer air brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Tourbillon has larger tires than the McLaren GTS (F:285/35R20 & R:345/30R21 vs. F:225/35R20 & R:295/30R21).

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Tourbillon’s wheelbase is 2.5 inches longer than on the McLaren GTS (107.8 inches vs. 105.3 inches).

Chassis

The Tourbillon is 5.5 inches shorter than the McLaren GTS, making the Tourbillon easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Ergonomics

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the Tourbillon has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

Standard smartphone integration for the Tourbillon allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The McLaren GTS doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.
