In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Mustang are reminded to check the back seat. The GranTurismo Folgore doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Ford Mustang has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GranTurismo Folgore doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Mustang has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GranTurismo Folgore doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Mustang’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranTurismo Folgore.

The Mustang has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the GranTurismo Folgore’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Mustang has standard Cross Traffic Alert and Cross Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the GranTurismo Folgore and the GranTurismo Folgore’s Rear Cross Path does not include automatic braking.

The Mustang has standard 911 Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The GranTurismo Folgore doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Mustang and the GranTurismo Folgore have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the GranTurismo Folgore. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the GranTurismo Folgore ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Mustang’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo Folgore’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are almost 27 times as many Ford dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang’s warranty.

The Mustang offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GranTurismo Folgore; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the Mustang’s turning circle is 4.2 feet tighter than the GranTurismo Folgore’s (36.5 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The Mustang GT/Dark Horse’s turning circle is 2.9 feet tighter than the GranTurismo Folgore’s (37.8 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Ford Mustang may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1400 pounds less than the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore.

The Mustang is 5.8 inches shorter than the GranTurismo Folgore, making the Mustang easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
