Compare the2025 Mazda CX-70VS 2025 Infiniti QX55

The CX-70 Premium has a standard Secondary Collision Reduction System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The QX55 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the CX-70’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX55 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the CX-70 and QX55 have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the CX-70 has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX55’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

The CX-70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The QX55 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the CX-70 and the QX55 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Mazda CX-70 weighs 740 to 1128 pounds more than the Infiniti QX55. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are almost 3 times as many Mazda dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CX-70’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mazda above average in long-term dependability. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Infiniti is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mazda 6 places higher in reliability than Infiniti.

The CX-70’s standard 3.3 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 12 more horsepower (280 vs. 268) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (332 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The CX-70 PHEV’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 55 more horsepower (323 vs. 268) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The CX-70 Turbo S’ standard 3.3 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 72 more horsepower (340 vs. 268) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 280) than the QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the CX-70 running its gasoline engine gets better mileage than the QX55:

The CX-70 PHEV can travel with zero emissions for 26 miles. The QX55 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the CX-70’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The QX55 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the CX-70’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The QX55 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Mazda CX-70 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended on CX-70 PHEV for maximum performance). The QX55 requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The CX-70’s standard fuel tank has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX55 (18.5 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The CX-70 Turbo S’ standard fuel tank has 3.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX55 (19.6 vs. 16 gallons).

For better stopping power the CX-70 Turbo S/PHEV’s brake rotors are larger than those on the QX55:

For better traction, the CX-70 has larger standard tires than the QX55 (265/55R19 vs. 255/45R20). The CX-70 Premium’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX55 (275/45R21 vs. 255/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the CX-70 Premium has standard 21-inch wheels. The QX55’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The CX-70 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the QX55; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the CX-70’s wheelbase is 12.6 inches longer than on the QX55 (122.8 inches vs. 110.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the CX-70 is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 3.4 inches wider in the rear than on the QX55.

The CX-70 has 41.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX55 (141.6 vs. 100.2).

The CX-70 has 2.1 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front hip room, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room, 2.4 inches more rear headroom, .7 inches more rear legroom, 1.7 inches more rear hip room and 1 inch more rear shoulder room than the QX55.

The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the QX55 with its rear seat up (39.6 vs. 26.9 cubic feet). The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the QX55 with its rear seat folded (75.3 vs. 54.1 cubic feet).

The CX-70 has a 3500 lbs. towing capacity. The QX55 has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the CX-70 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The QX55 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The engine in the CX-70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the QX55. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The power windows standard on both the CX-70 and the QX55 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the CX-70 is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The QX55 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The CX-70’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The QX55’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the CX-70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The QX55 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The CX-70 Premium’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The QX55 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The CX-70 Premium Plus has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The QX55 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
