Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mazda CX-70 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Genesis GV70 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Mazda CX-70 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GV70 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The CX-70 Premium has a standard Secondary Collision Reduction System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GV70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the CX-70 and the GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

There are over 2 times as many Mazda dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CX-70’s warranty.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mazda 11 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The CX-70 PHEV can travel with zero emissions for 26 miles. The GV70 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the CX-70’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV70 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Mazda CX-70 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended on CX-70 PHEV for maximum performance). The GV70 with the 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The CX-70’s standard fuel tank has 1.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV70 (18.5 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The CX-70 Turbo S’ standard fuel tank has 2.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV70 (19.6 vs. 17.4 gallons).

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the CX-70 has larger standard tires than the GV70 (265/55R19 vs. 235/55R19). The CX-70 Premium’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV70 (275/45R21 vs. 255/40R21).

Suspension and Handling

The CX-70 has variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the CX-70’s wheelbase is 9.6 inches longer than on the GV70 (122.8 inches vs. 113.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the CX-70 is 2.3 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GV70.

For greater off-road capability the CX-70 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the GV70 (8 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the CX-70 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The CX-70 Turbo S/PHEV’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the GV70 (8.1 vs. 7.3 inches).

Passenger Space

The CX-70 has 37.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GV70 (141.6 vs. 104).

The CX-70 has .1 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear headroom, 2.2 inches more rear legroom and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the GV70.

Cargo Capacity

The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the GV70 with its rear seat up (39.6 vs. 28.9 cubic feet). The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GV70 with its rear seat folded (75.3 vs. 56.9 cubic feet).

The CX-70’s cargo area is larger than the GV70’s in almost every dimension:

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Genesis GV70 is limited to 3500 pounds. The CX-70 offers up to a 5000 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the CX-70 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV70 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The CX-70 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GV70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the CX-70 Turbo S has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The GV70 doesn’t offer cornering lights.
