The Chiron has a standard 360 degree parking monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Aventador only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Chiron’s blind spot camera is used to display a wide-angle view of the passenger side of the road. The Aventador doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

Both the Chiron and the Aventador have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Bugatti Chiron weighs 615 to 1036 pounds more than the Lamborghini Aventador. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Engine

The Chiron’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 749 more horsepower (1479 vs. 730) and 674 lbs.-ft. more torque (1181 vs. 507) than the Aventador S’ standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The Chiron’s 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 720 more horsepower (1479 vs. 759) and 650 lbs.-ft. more torque (1181 vs. 531) than the Aventador SVJ’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The Chiron Super Sport’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 819 more horsepower (1578 vs. 759) and 649 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 531) than the Aventador SVJ’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12.

As tested in Car and Driver the Bugatti Chiron 8.0 is faster than the Aventador S:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Chiron has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Aventador (26.4 vs. 23.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Chiron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Aventador:

The Chiron has standard air brakes, which adjust the spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The Aventador doesn’t offer air brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Chiron has larger front tires than the Aventador (F:285/30R20 & R:355/25R21 vs. F:255/30R20 & R:355/25R21).

Suspension and Handling

The Chiron has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Chiron’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Aventador doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Chiron is 1.2 inches wider in the front than the average track on the Aventador.

The Chiron Sport handles at 1.06 G’s, while the Aventador S pulls only 1.04 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The Chiron is 10 inches shorter than the Aventador, making the Chiron easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Chiron has 4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Aventador (54 vs. 50).

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the Chiron, the optional memory seats make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The Aventador doesn’t offer memory seats.

The Chiron’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Aventador’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.
