2023 Bugatti Chiron
2020 McLaren 600LT

Safety

The Chiron has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 600LT doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Chiron has a standard 360 degree parking monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The 600LT only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Chiron’s blind spot camera is used to display a wide-angle view of the passenger side of the road. The 600LT doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

Both the Chiron and the 600LT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Bugatti Chiron weighs 1103 to 1409 pounds more than the McLaren 600LT. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts. Crosswinds also affect lighter cars more.

Engine

The Chiron’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 887 more horsepower (1479 vs. 592) and 723 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 457) than the 600LT’s 3.8 turbo V8. The Chiron Super Sport’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 986 more horsepower (1578 vs. 592) and 723 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 457) than the 600LT’s 3.8 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Chiron has 7.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the 600LT (26.4 vs. 19 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the Chiron, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The McLaren 600LT is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Chiron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 600LT:

Chiron

600LT

Front Rotors

16.5 inches

15.4 inches

Rear Rotors

15.7 inches

15 inches

The Chiron has standard air brakes, which adjust the spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The 600LT doesn’t offer air brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Chiron has larger tires than the 600LT (F:285/30R20 & R:355/25R21 vs. F:225/35R19 & R:285/35R20).

The Chiron’s 285/30R20 front and 355/25R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 600LT’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Chiron has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Only 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are available on the 600LT.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Chiron’s wheelbase is 1.6 inches longer than on the 600LT (106.7 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Chiron is 2.8 inches wider in the front and 2.8 inches wider in the rear than on the 600LT.

Passenger Space

The Chiron has 5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 600LT (54 vs. 49).

Ergonomics

The Chiron’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The 600LT does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Chiron’s power mirror controls are mounted on the door for easy access. The 600LT’s power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the Chiron has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The 600LT doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity is standard on the Chiron, connecting the driver and passenger’s cell phones to the vehicle systems. This allows them to use the vehicle’s stereo and hand controls to place calls safely and easily.
