2023 Bugatti Chiron
2022 Ford GT

Safety

The Chiron has standard front seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The GT doesn't offer side-impact airbags or side airbag protection for the head.

The Chiron has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The GT doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Chiron has a standard 360 degree parking monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The GT only offers a rear monitor.

The Chiron’s blind spot camera is used to display a wide-angle view of the passenger side of the road. The GT doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

Both the Chiron and the GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

The Bugatti Chiron weighs 844 to 1044 pounds more than the Ford GT. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Engine

The Chiron’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 832 more horsepower (1479 vs. 647) and 630 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 550) than the GT’s 3.5 turbo V6. The Chiron Super Sport’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 931 more horsepower (1578 vs. 647) and 630 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 550) than the GT’s 3.5 turbo V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the Bugatti Chiron 8.0 is faster than the Ford GT:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Chiron has 11.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the GT (26.4 vs. 15.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the Chiron, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ford GT is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Chiron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GT:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Chiron has larger tires than the GT (F:285/30R20 & R:355/25R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:325/30R20).

The Chiron’s 285/30R20 front and 355/25R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GT’s standard 35 series front and 30 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Chiron has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the GT.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Chiron uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the GT, which uses torsion bars in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The Chiron has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GT doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Chiron is 2.2 inches wider in the front than on the GT.

The Chiron’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (43% to 57%) than the GT’s (40.7% to 59.3%). This gives the Chiron more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The Chiron is 8.6 inches shorter than the GT, making the Chiron easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Chiron Sport is quieter than the GT:

Passenger Space

The Chiron has 11 cubic feet more passenger volume than the GT (54 vs. 43).

Cargo Capacity

The Chiron has a much larger trunk than the GT (2 vs. .4 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the Chiron, the optional memory seats make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The GT doesn’t offer memory seats.

The Chiron has standard heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the GT.
