2023 Bugatti Chiron
2022 Ferrari 812

Safety

The Chiron has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 812 doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Chiron has a standard 360 degree parking monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The 812 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Chiron and the 812 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and front and rear parking sensors.

The Bugatti Chiron weighs 439 to 1120 pounds more than the Ferrari 812. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Engine

The Chiron’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 690 more horsepower (1479 vs. 789) and 650 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 530) than the 812’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The Chiron’s 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 661 more horsepower (1479 vs. 818) and 670 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 510) than the 812 Competizione’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12. The Chiron Super Sport’s standard 8.0 turbo 16-cylinder produces 760 more horsepower (1578 vs. 818) and 670 lbs.-ft. more torque (1180 vs. 510) than the 812 Competizione’s standard 6.5 DOHC V12.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Chiron has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the 812 (26.4 vs. 24.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the Chiron, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ferrari 812 is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Chiron’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 812:

Chiron

812

Front Rotors

16.5 inches

15.7 inches

Rear Rotors

15.7 inches

14.2 inches

The Chiron has standard air brakes, which adjust the spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The 812 doesn’t offer air brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Chiron has larger tires than the 812 (F:285/30R20 & R:355/25R21 vs. F:275/35R20 & R:315/35R20).

The Chiron’s 285/30R20 front and 355/25R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series front and 25 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 812’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Chiron has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the 812.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Chiron is 3.1 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the 812.

Chassis

The Chiron is 4.4 inches shorter than the 812 Superfast, making the Chiron easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Ergonomics

The Chiron’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 812’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

The Chiron’s standard turn signal stalk mounted cruise control on/off switch is conveniently located with the rest of the cruise controls. The 812’s standard cruise control must be turned on with a hard to find switch on the dashboard.
