The Electrified GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Ioniq 9’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

The Electrified GV70 has standard Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified GV70. But it costs extra on the Ioniq 9.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the Ioniq 9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Hyundai doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Ioniq 9.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Electrified GV70’s reliability 12 points higher than the Ioniq 9.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai With 9 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Genesis higher than Hyundai.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 268 more horsepower (483 vs. 215) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the Ioniq 9 S’ standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 180 more horsepower (483 vs. 303) and 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 446) than the Ioniq 9 SE/SEL’s standard electric motors. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 61 more horsepower (483 vs. 422) than the Ioniq 9 Limited/Calligraphy’s standard electric motors.

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer launch control.

The Electrified GV70’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 9 S/SE’s standard 60 series tires.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Ioniq 9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige handles at .83 G’s, while the Ioniq 9 S pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.4 seconds quicker than the Ioniq 9 S (26.3 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Hyundai doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Ioniq 9.

The Electrified GV70’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 9’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The Electrified GV70’s standard Proximity Key allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 9 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear doors.

The Electrified GV70’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 9 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Ioniq 9 SEL/Limited/Calligraphy.

The GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for . The Ioniq 9 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The Ioniq 9 has never been chosen.
