Safety

The Lamborghini Temerario has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 296 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Temerario has standard tall side airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The 296 doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head.

The Temerario has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 296 doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Temerario and the 296 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Temerario’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the 296’s (12 vs. 3 years).

Engine

The Temerario’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 89 more horsepower (908 vs. 819) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 546) than the 296’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The Temerario’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 40 more horsepower (908 vs. 868) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 557) than the 296 Speciale’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Lamborghini Temerario is faster than the Ferrari 296 3.0:

Drivetrain

All-wheel drive, available in the Temerario, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all-wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ferrari 296 is not available with all-wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Temerario’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 296:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Temerario has larger tires than the 296 (F:255/35R20 & R:325/30R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:305/35R20).

The Temerario’s 325/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 296’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Temerario has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the 296.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Temerario’s wheelbase is 2.2 inches longer than on the 296 (104.6 inches vs. 102.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Temerario is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than on the 296.

The Temerario’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (43.4% to 56.6%) than the 296’s (40.5% to 59.5%). This gives the Temerario more stable handling and braking.

Ergonomics

The Temerario’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 296’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Temerario detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The 296 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

The Temerario offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the 296.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Temerario keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 296 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Lamborghini Temerario has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located for the driver. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Ferrari charges extra for Homelink® on the 296.

Compared to the Ferrari 296’s traditional radio, the Lamborghini Temerario equipped with standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks.
