Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Cadillac Optiq are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW iX3 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Optiq has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The iX3 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

To deliver safety and visibility under dusty conditions the Cadillac Optiq’s backup monitor has a standard rear washer to keep the view clear. A camera washer system costs extra on the BMW iX3.

Both the Optiq and the iX3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the Optiq 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than BMW covers the iX3. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the iX3 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 61 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Optiq’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac above average in long-term dependability. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, BMW is rated lower.

Engine

The Optiq’s optional electric motors produces 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (498 vs. 476) than the iX3’s electric motors. The Optiq-V’s optional electric motors produces 56 more horsepower (519 vs. 463) and 174 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 476) than the iX3’s electric motors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Optiq’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the iX3 (275/40R21 vs. 255/40R21).

The Cadillac Optiq’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The BMW iX3 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Optiq can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The iX3 doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Optiq offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The iX3’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Optiq’s wheelbase is 1.9 inches longer than on the iX3 (116 inches vs. 114.1 inches).

Chassis

The front grille of the Optiq uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The iX3 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Ergonomics

The Optiq’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The iX3’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Optiq Premium/V-Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The iX3 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Optiq has standard extendable sun visors. The iX3 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Optiq has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the iX3.

The Optiq has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The iX3 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The Optiq is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The iX3 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
