Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the BMW iX3 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Kia EV6 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The iX3’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The EV6 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW iX3 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The EV6 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The iX3 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The EV6 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX3. But it costs extra on the EV6.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the iX3’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The EV6 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The BMW iX3’s optional Surround View has integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Kia EV6 lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the iX3 and the EV6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The BMW iX3 weighs 524 to 1022 pounds more than the Kia EV6. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The iX3’s corrosion warranty is 7 years and unlimited miles longer than the EV6’s (12/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX3 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EV6.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Kia is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 5 places higher in reliability than Kia.

Engine

The iX3’s electric motors produces 296 more horsepower (463 vs. 167) and 218 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 258) than the EV6 Light Standard Range’s standard electric motor. The iX3’s electric motors produces 238 more horsepower (463 vs. 225) and 218 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 258) than the EV6 Long Range’s standard electric motor. The iX3’s electric motors produces 143 more horsepower (463 vs. 320) and 30 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 446) than the EV6 Long Range’s optional electric motors.

Transmission

The iX3’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EV6 doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the iX3’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the EV6:

Front Rotors

13 inches

12.8 inches

Rear Rotors

13.6 inches

12.8 inches

The iX3’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the EV6 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the iX3 has larger standard tires than the EV6 (255/45R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The iX3’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EV6’s standard 55 series tires. The iX3’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the EV6 GT-Line e-AWD’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the iX3 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the EV6. The iX3’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the EV6 GT-Line e-AWD.

Chassis

The iX3 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The EV6 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The iX3 has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom and 1.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the EV6.

Cargo Capacity

The iX3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the EV6 with its rear seat up (31.4 vs. 24.4 cubic feet). The iX3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the EV6 with its rear seat folded (65 vs. 46.7 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the iX3. The EV6 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The iX3’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the EV6’s (4400 vs. 0 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stabilization Control on the iX3 uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The EV6 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the EV6 Wind/GT-Line/GT, the iX3 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, power steering assist, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The iX3’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The EV6’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. The EV6 GT-Line’s rear windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the iX3 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the EV6 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The iX3’s standard Comfort Access allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Smart Key standard on the EV6 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear doors.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the iX3 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The EV6 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the iX3 has a standard rear wiper. The EV6 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The iX3’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The EV6 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The iX3 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the EV6.

The BMW iX3 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Kia charges extra for Homelink® on the EV6.
