Compare the2027 BMW iX3 VS 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV

The iX3’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The iX3 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX3. But it costs extra on the Equinox EV.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the iX3’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The BMW iX3’s optional Surround View is equipped with washers for its front and rear cameras, ensuring crystal-clear visibility in any weather condition. Conversely, the Chevrolet Equinox EV only offers a rear camera washer, which may not provide the same level of all-weather performance.

Both the iX3 and the Equinox EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The iX3 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Equinox EV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The iX3’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Equinox EV’s (12/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX3 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Equinox EV.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 12 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The iX3’s electric motors produces 243 more horsepower (463 vs. 220) and 233 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 243) than the Equinox EV’s standard electric motor. The iX3’s electric motors produces 175 more horsepower (463 vs. 288) and 143 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 333) than the Equinox EV’s optional electric motors.

On the EPA test cycle the iX3 gets better mileage than the Equinox EV:

The iX3 has a standard locking charge port, which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Equinox EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The iX3’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the iX3’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Equinox EV:

For better traction, the iX3 has larger standard tires than the Equinox EV (255/45R20 vs. 245/55R19).

The iX3’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Equinox EV’s standard 55 series tires. The iX3’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the Equinox EV’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the iX3 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Equinox EV. The iX3’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Equinox EV.

For greater off-road capability the iX3 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Equinox EV (6.9 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the iX3 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The iX3 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The iX3 has 1.4 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front shoulder room and 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Equinox EV.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the iX3’s rear seats recline. The Equinox EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

The iX3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Equinox EV with its rear seat up (31.4 vs. 26.4 cubic feet). The iX3 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Equinox EV with its rear seat folded (65 vs. 57.2 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the iX3. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The iX3’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Equinox EV’s (4400 vs. 1500 pounds).

A Condition-Based Service Display is standard on the iX3 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Chevrolet doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Equinox EV.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional at extra cost in the Equinox EV, the iX3 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, power steering assist, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The iX3’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The iX3’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Equinox EV’s standard power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. The Equinox EV’s optional front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the iX3 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Equinox EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The iX3’s standard Comfort Access allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Keyless Access standard on the Equinox EV doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear doors.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the iX3 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The iX3’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Equinox EV.

The iX3’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Equinox EV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the BMW iX3 and Chevrolet Equinox EV offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The iX3 features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Equinox EV’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The iX3 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Equinox EV.

The iX3 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The BMW iX3 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Chevrolet charges extra for Homelink® on the Equinox EV.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the BMW iX3 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The iX3’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Equinox EV’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
