Both the 849 Testarossa and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The 849 Testarossa comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the 849 Testarossa for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG SL.

The 849 Testarossa’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 620 more horsepower (1036 vs. 416) than the AMG SL 43’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The 849 Testarossa’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 567 more horsepower (1036 vs. 469) than the AMG SL 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The 849 Testarossa can travel with zero emissions on electricity, only, on a full charge for 15 miles. The AMG SL 63 S E Performance has to start its internal combustion engine after only 11 miles.

The 849 Testarossa has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better stopping power the 849 Testarossa’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG SL:

The 849 Testarossa’s 265/35R20 front and 325/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL 43’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 849 Testarossa has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the AMG SL 43.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 849 Testarossa is .7 inches wider in the front and 2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the AMG SL.

The 849 Testarossa’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The 849 Testarossa’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG SL does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.
