Safety
Warranty
Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the 12Cilindri for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Aston Martin doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the DB12.
Engine
The 12Cilindri’s 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 148 more horsepower (819 vs. 671) than the DB12’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The 12Cilindri’s 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 129 more horsepower (819 vs. 690) than the DB12 S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8.
Fuel Economy and Range
The 12Cilindri has 3.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the DB12 (24.3 vs. 20.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
Environmental Friendliness
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ferrari 12Cilindri higher (5 out of 10) than the Aston Martin DB12 (4). This means the 12Cilindri produces up to 5.2 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the DB12 every 15,000 miles.
Transmission
The 12Cilindri offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DB12 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.
Suspension and Handling
For better maneuverability, the 12Cilindri’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the DB12’s (39.1 feet vs. 40.7 feet).
Chassis
The 12Cilindri’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The DB12 doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.
Cargo Capacity
The 12Cilindri Spider has a much larger trunk with its top down than the DB12 Volante with its top down (7.1 vs. 6 cubic feet).
A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the 12Cilindri. The DB12 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.
Ergonomics
The 12Cilindri’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The DB12 does not have an oil pressure gauge.
The 12Cilindri’s optional sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The DB12’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.
The 12Cilindri has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the DB12.
