The EX60’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The bZ doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Volvo EX60’s standard multi-adaptive safety belts scans passenger size, crash angle, speed, and severity and adjusts load-limiters to 11 different settings to prevent head injuries in larger adults, and rib injuries in smaller passengers and less severe crashes. The system even performs over-the-air updates to improve its performance over time. The bZ doesn’t offer multi-adaptive safety belts.

Both the EX60 and bZ have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The EX60 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The bZ’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Volvo EX60 offers optional built in child booster seats. They’re more crash worthy than an added child seat because of their direct attachment to the seat. Toyota doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the bZ. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; EX60 owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The EX60 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The bZ doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The EX60 has a standard Whiplash Protection System, which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Protection System allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The bZ doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The EX60 has Connected Safety, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The bZ doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

Both the EX60 and the bZ have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The EX60 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The bZ’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The EX60’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the bZ’s (12 vs. 5 years).

The EX60’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the bZ XLE’s standard 60 series tires. The EX60’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the bZ Limited’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EX60 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the bZ XLE. The EX60’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the bZ Limited.

The EX60 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The bZ’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The EX60 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The bZ uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the EX60 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The bZ doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EX60 has a standard rear wiper. The bZ doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX60 Ultra has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The bZ doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the EX60 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The bZ doesn’t offer cornering lights.
