The EX60’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Volvo EX60’s standard multi-adaptive safety belts scans passenger size, crash angle, speed, and severity and adjusts load-limiters to 11 different settings to prevent head injuries in larger adults, and rib injuries in smaller passengers and less severe crashes. The system even performs over-the-air updates to improve its performance over time. The Countryman SE only uses fixed-force load-limiters.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volvo EX60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The MINI Countryman SE doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the EX60 and Countryman SE have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The EX60 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Countryman SE’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Volvo EX60 offers optional built in child booster seats. They’re more crash worthy than an added child seat because of their direct attachment to the seat. MINI doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the Countryman SE. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; EX60 owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The EX60 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The EX60 has a standard Whiplash Protection System, which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Protection System allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The EX60 has Connected Safety, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

Both the EX60 and the Countryman SE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

There are almost 3 times as many Volvo dealers as there are MINI dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EX60’s warranty.

The EX60 P6’s standard electric motor produces 61 more horsepower (369 vs. 308) than the Countryman SE’s electric motors. The EX60 P10’s standard electric motors produces 195 more horsepower (503 vs. 308) and 160 lbs.-ft. more torque (524 vs. 364) than the Countryman SE’s electric motors. The EX60 P12’s standard electric motors produces 362 more horsepower (670 vs. 308) and 219 lbs.-ft. more torque (583 vs. 364) than the Countryman SE’s electric motors.

The EX60’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Countryman SE are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the EX60 has larger standard tires than the Countryman SE (235/55R20 vs. 225/55R18). The EX60’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Countryman SE (255/45R21 vs. 245/45R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EX60 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Countryman SE. The EX60’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Countryman SE.

The EX60 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Countryman SE’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EX60’s wheelbase is 10.9 inches longer than on the Countryman SE (116.9 inches vs. 106 inches).

The EX60’s standard Keyless Entry & Drive allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Access standard on the Countryman SE doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EX60 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Countryman SE only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX60 Ultra has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Countryman SE’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The EX60’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the EX60 has standard extendable sun visors. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Both the EX60 and the Countryman SE have standard heated front seats. The EX60 also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Countryman SE.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the EX60 keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The EX60 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Countryman SE doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
