For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX65 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Volvo XC40 has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

The Infiniti QX65 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The XC40 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The QX65 Autograph offers an optional front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The XC40 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the QX65. But it costs extra on the XC40.

The Infiniti QX65 weighs 696 to 1041 pounds more than the Volvo XC40. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The QX65 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XC40’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX65 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the XC40. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the XC40 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX65 for 1 year and 2500 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the XC40 (3/22500 vs. 2/20,000).

The QX65’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 74 more horsepower (268 vs. 194) and 65 lbs.-ft. more torque (286 vs. 221) than the XC40 B4’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The QX65’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 21 more horsepower (268 vs. 247) and 28 lbs.-ft. more torque (286 vs. 258) than the XC40 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

The QX65 has 4.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the XC40 (18.5 vs. 14.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Infiniti QX65, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the XC40.

For better stopping power the QX65’s brake rotors are larger than those on the XC40:

The QX65’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the XC40 are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the QX65 has larger standard tires than the XC40 (255/50R20 vs. 235/55R18). The QX65 Autograph’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XC40 (265/45R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The QX65’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XC40’s standard 55 series tires.

Pressing a button automatically lowers the QX65’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The XC40 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The QX65’s standard Entry/Exit Assist raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The XC40 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The QX65 (except Luxe) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The XC40 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the QX65 has standard extendable sun visors. The XC40 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the QX65 Sport/Autograph keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The XC40 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
