2025 Volvo EX90
2025 Lucid Motors Gravity

Safety

The EX90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Gravity doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EX90 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Gravity doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Volvo EX90 (except 6-Passenger) offers an optional built in child booster seat. It’s more crash worthy than an added child seat because of its direct attachment to the seat. Lucid Motors doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the Gravity. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; EX90 owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The EX90 has standard Volvo On Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Gravity doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the EX90 and the Gravity have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Volvo EX90 weighs 700 pounds more than the Lucid Motors Gravity. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The EX90’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Gravity’s (12 vs. 10 years).

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the EX90 for 1 year and 6000 miles longer than Lucid Motors pays for maintenance for the Gravity (3/30,000 vs. 2/24,000).

There are over 14 times as many Volvo dealers as there are Lucid Motors dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EX90’s warranty.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the EX90’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Gravity:

EX90

Gravity

Front Rotors

15.7 inches

15.4 inches

Rear Rotors

15.4 inches

15.3 inches

Chassis

The front grille of the EX90 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Gravity doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EX90’s middle row seats recline. The Gravity’s middle row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The EX90 has a much larger cargo volume than the Gravity with its rear seat up (67.6 vs. 25 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the EX90’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Gravity doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The EX90 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Gravity doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EX90 has a standard rear wiper. The Gravity doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX90 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Gravity doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The EX90’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Gravity has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The EX90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Gravity.
