The Volvo EX90 (except 6-Passenger) offers an optional built in child booster seat. It’s more crash worthy than an added child seat because of its direct attachment to the seat. Genesis doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the Electrified GV70. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; EX90 owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The Volvo EX90 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Volvo EX90 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, outperforming the Genesis Electrified GV70 which scored only an “Acceptable” in these critical safety features.

The EX90 has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the EX90 and the Electrified GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Side impacts caused 23% of all road fatalities in 2018, down from 29% in 2003, when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced its side barrier test. In order to continue improving vehicle safety, the IIHS has started using a more severe side impact test: 37 MPH (up from 31 MPH), with a 4180-pound barrier (up from 3300 pounds). The results of this newly developed test demonstrates that the Volvo EX90 is safer than the Electrified GV70:

The EX90’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the Electrified GV70’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 36 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the EX90’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Volvo vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Volvo 6 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

The EX90 Twin Motor Performance’s standard electric motors produces 187 more horsepower (670 vs. 483) and 126 lbs.-ft. more torque (642 vs. 516) than the Electrified GV70’s electric motors.

The EX90’s standard 255/50R20 front and 285/45R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Electrified GV70’s standard 55 series tires. The EX90’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Electrified GV70 AWD Advanced/Prestige’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EX90 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Electrified GV70. The EX90’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the Electrified GV70 AWD Advanced/Prestige.

The EX90 Ultra has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The EX90’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The EX90 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EX90’s wheelbase is 4.3 inches longer than on the Electrified GV70 (117.5 inches vs. 113.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the EX90 is 1.1 inches wider in the front and .4 inches wider in the rear than on the Electrified GV70.

The EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance handles at .86 G’s, while the Electrified GV70 Prestige pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Electrified GV70 Prestige (25.9 seconds @ .75 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .74 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the EX90 has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Electrified GV70 (8.4 vs. 6.9 inches), allowing the EX90 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The EX90’s minimum ground clearance is 1.6 inches higher than on the Electrified GV70 (8.5 vs. 6.9 inches).

The front grille of the EX90 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EX90 has standard seating for 7 passengers; the Electrified GV70 can only carry 5.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the EX90 uses the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX90 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The EX90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Electrified GV70 Advanced/Prestige.

The EX90 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
