2026 Rolls-Royce Ghost
2026 Mercedes AMG S-Class

Safety

Both the Ghost and AMG S-Class have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Ghost has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG S-Class’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

An active infrared night vision system standard on the Ghost helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then projects the image on the windshield, near the driver’s line of sight. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Ghost and the AMG S-Class have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Ghost comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG S-Class’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Rolls-Royce pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ghost for 4 years and unlimited miles. Rolls-Royce will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG S-Class.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Ghost has 1.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG S-Class (21.8 vs. 20.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Ghost’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG S-Class:

Front Rotors

16.1 inches

14.2 inches

Rear Rotors

15.8 inches

14.2 inches

Tires and Wheels

The Ghost’s 255/35R22 front and 285/30R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG S-Class’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghost has standard 22-inch wheels. The AMG S-Class’ largest wheels are only 21-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Ghost can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ghost’s wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer than on the AMG S-Class (129.7 inches vs. 126.6 inches). The Ghost Extended’s wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than on the AMG S-Class (136.4 inches vs. 126.6 inches).

Chassis

The Rolls-Royce Ghost may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG S-Class.

The Ghost uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Ghost Extended has 5.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG S-Class (117.5 vs. 112).

Cargo Capacity

The Ghost has a much larger trunk than the AMG S-Class (17.3 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The Ghost’s power side reverse swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the car. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer a power rear door.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghost has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer headlight washers.
