2026 Lexus ES
2026 Lucid Motors Air

Safety

The Lexus ES’ rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Lucid Motors Air does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

The ES has standard Safety Connect®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Air doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the ES and the Air have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are over 5 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Lucid Motors dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ES’ warranty.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the ES is 1.1 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Air.

Chassis

The Lexus ES may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 550 pounds less than the Lucid Motors Air.

The ES uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Air doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The ES has .3 inches more front legroom and 3.1 inches more rear legroom than the Air.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the ES 350e Luxury’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Air doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Air, the ES Luxury has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The ES Luxury/Premium+ has a standard heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Air doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

On a hot day the ES’ driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Air can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The ES offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Air doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The ES’ power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Air’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The ES has standard front air conditioned seats and the ES 350e Luxury offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Air doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The ES has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Air.

Both the ES and the Air offer available massaging front seats. The ES 350e Luxury also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Air.

The Lexus ES stands out above the Lucid Motors Air by offering not one, but two Qi-compatible phone chargers. This convenience helps travelers with multiple devices to keep powered up on-the-go. Wireless charging eliminates lost or cluttered charging cables and one of them provide more flexibility.

Recommendations

The Lexus ES outsold the Lucid Motors Air by over four to one during 2025.
