2026 Mercedes CLA EQ

Safety

The 500e has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the 500e and the CLA EQ have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, front parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the 500e gets better mileage than the CLA EQ:

Tires and Wheels

The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CLA 250+ EQ’s standard 55 series front and 50 series rear tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 5.3 feet tighter than the CLA EQ’s (31.5 feet vs. 36.8 feet).

Chassis

The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1600 to 1800 pounds less than the Mercedes CLA EQ.

The 500e is 3 feet, 6.9 inches shorter than the CLA EQ, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 500e is 7 inches narrower than the CLA EQ, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the 500e easier. The 500e’s trunk lift-over height is 27.4 inches, while the CLA EQ’s liftover is 30.1 inches.

Ergonomics

The 500e’s standard Keyless Enter-N-Go allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless-Start standard on the CLA EQ only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 500e has a standard rear wiper. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Fiat 500e has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the CLA EQ.
