Both the F-Pace and Murano have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The F-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Murano’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Jaguar F-Pace’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Nissan Murano does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the F-Pace and Murano have rear cross-traffic warning, but the F-Pace has Rear Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Murano’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the F-Pace and the Murano have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The F-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Murano’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The F-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Murano’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Nissan doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Murano.

Reliability

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the F-Pace has a standard 800-amp battery. The Murano’s 760-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the F-Pace is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the F-Pace’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Murano’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Engine

The F-Pace P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 5 more horsepower (246 vs. 241) and 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 260) than the Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The F-Pace P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 154 more horsepower (395 vs. 241) and 146 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 260) than the Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The F-Pace SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 326 more horsepower (567 vs. 241) and 256 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 260) than the Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the F-Pace P400 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid is faster than the Nissan Murano:

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the F-Pace P250 gets better fuel mileage than the Murano (22 city/27 hwy vs. 21 city/27 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the F-Pace’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Murano doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The F-Pace has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Murano (21.9 vs. 18.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the F-Pace’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Murano:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the F-Pace SVR’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Murano (F:265/45R21 & R:295/40R21 vs. 255/55R20).

The F-Pace SVR’s optional 265/40R22 front and 295/35R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Murano Platinum’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F-Pace offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Murano’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the F-Pace can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Murano doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The F-Pace offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Murano; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

Suspension and Handling

The F-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Murano’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The F-Pace has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Murano doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-Pace’s wheelbase is 1.9 inches longer than on the Murano (113.1 inches vs. 111.2 inches).

The F-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Murano’s (58.8% to 41.2%). This gives the F-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The F-Pace SVR handles at .89 G’s, while the Murano Platinum pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The F-Pace SVR executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3 seconds quicker than the Murano Platinum (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 28 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the F-Pace has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Murano (8.4 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the F-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The F-Pace SVR’s minimum ground clearance is .3 inch higher than on the Murano (8.6 vs. 8.3 inches).

Chassis

The Jaguar F-Pace may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 300 pounds less than the Nissan Murano.

The F-Pace is 6 inches shorter than the Murano, making the F-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The F-Pace has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Murano with its rear seat folded (70.4 vs. 63.5 cubic feet).

Towing

The F-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Murano’s (5291 vs. 1500 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stability Assist on the F-Pace uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Murano doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the F-Pace is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Murano. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Murano SL/Platinum, the F-Pace offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the F-Pace the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Murano can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The F-Pace’s standard Keyless Start and Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Intelligent Key standard on the Murano doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The F-Pace’s power window, power lock and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Murano’s power window switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The F-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Murano’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the F-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Murano doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F-Pace SVR has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Murano doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The F-Pace’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Murano offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Jaguar F-Pace has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Murano Platinum.

The F-Pace has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Murano SL/Platinum.

The Jaguar F-Pace has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Nissan charges extra for Homelink® on the Murano.

The F-Pace’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Murano doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
