The AMG GT 4-Door’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The RS 5 Sportback doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the RS 5 Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available lane departure warning systems.

The Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door weighs 474 to 1190 pounds more than the Audi RS 5 Sportback. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The AMG GT 63 S E’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 387 more horsepower (831 vs. 444) and 590 lbs.-ft. more torque (1032 vs. 442) than the RS 5 Sportback’s 2.9 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the AMG GT 63 S E running on electricity gets better mileage than the RS 5 Sportback (31 city/26 hwy MPGe vs. 18 city/25 hwy).

The AMG GT 63 S E can travel with zero emissions for 1 miles. The RS 5 Sportback can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The RS 5 Sportback doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The AMG GT 4-Door 63 S E’s standard fuel tank has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the RS 5 Sportback (19 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The AMG GT 4-Door’s standard fuel tank has 5.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the RS 5 Sportback (21.1 vs. 15.3 gallons).

The RS 5 Sportback doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door and the Audi RS 5 Sportback have a standard Qi wireless phone charging system in the front seat. To easily keep personal devices charged in the rear seat, without cables tangling and wearing out, the AMG GT 4-Door also has a standard wireless charging system in the rear seat. The RS 5 Sportback does not.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The RS 5 Sportback doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The RS 5 Sportback’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
