The Range Rover Sport P460e’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 92 more horsepower (454 vs. 362) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 406) than the new SQ5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6. The Range Rover Sport P530’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 produces 161 more horsepower (523 vs. 362) and 147 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 406) than the new SQ5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6. On the EPA test cycle the Range Rover Sport running on electricity gets better mileage than the new SQ5 Sportback:

The Range Rover Sport can travel with zero emissions for 53 miles. The new SQ5 Sportback can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The Range Rover Sport P460e/P550e’s standard fuel tank has 1.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the new SQ5 Sportback (18.9 vs. 17.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Range Rover Sport’s standard fuel tank has 6.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the new SQ5 Sportback (23.8 vs. 17.2 gallons).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Sport higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the Audi new SQ5 Sportback (4). This means the Range Rover Sport produces up to 12.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the new SQ5 Sportback every 15,000 miles.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the new SQ5 Sportback.

For better stopping power the Range Rover Sport’s brake rotors are larger than those on the new SQ5 Sportback:

The Range Rover Sport SV offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport has larger standard tires than the new SQ5 Sportback (275/50R21 vs. 255/45R20). The Range Rover Sport SV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the new SQ5 Sportback (F:285/40R23 & R:305/35R23 vs. 255/45R20).

The Range Rover Sport SV’s 305/35R23 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the new SQ5 Sportback’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the new SQ5 Sportback. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the new SQ5 Sportback.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the new SQ5 Sportback; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the new SQ5 Sportback don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Audi doesn’t offer an active suspension on the new SQ5 Sportback.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 7.1 inches longer than on the new SQ5 Sportback (118 inches vs. 110.9 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Sport w/Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the new SQ5 Sportback’s (35.9 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Sport has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the new SQ5 Sportback (.36) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Sport get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Range Rover Sport has 1.3 inches more front headroom and .8 inches more rear headroom than the new SQ5 Sportback.

The Range Rover Sport has a much larger cargo volume than the new SQ5 Sportback with its rear seat up (31.9 vs. 25.4 cubic feet).

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Sport uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the new SQ5 Sportback, the Range Rover Sport has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the new SQ5 Sportback only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Range Rover Sport offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

The Range Rover Sport has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the new SQ5 Sportback.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The new SQ5 Sportback doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Range Rover Sport third among large premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The new SQ5 Sportback isn’t in the top three.
