Both the Range Rover Evoque and Murano have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Evoque has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Murano’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and Murano have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Range Rover Evoque has Rear Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Murano’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Murano have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Range Rover Evoque comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Murano’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Range Rover Evoque’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Murano’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Engine

The Range Rover Evoque’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 5 more horsepower (246 vs. 241) and 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 260) than the Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is faster than the Nissan Murano:

Fuel Economy and Range

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Evoque’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Murano doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque higher (6 out of 10) than the Nissan Murano (5). This means the Range Rover Evoque produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Murano every 15,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Murano Platinum’s 50 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Murano’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Range Rover Evoque has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Murano doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Range Rover Evoque Dynamic SE handles at .86 G’s, while the Murano Platinum pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Range Rover Evoque Dynamic SE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the Murano Platinum (26.9 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 28 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

Chassis

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 450 pounds less than the Nissan Murano.

The Range Rover Evoque is 1 foot, 8.8 inches shorter than the Murano, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The front step up height for the Range Rover Evoque is 1.1 inches lower than the Murano (18.7” vs. 19.8”). The Range Rover Evoque’s rear step up height is 2.1 inches lower than the Murano’s (18.5” vs. 20.6”).

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Range Rover Evoque easier. The Range Rover Evoque’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.7 inches, while the Murano’s liftover is 30.7 inches.

Towing

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Murano’s (3968 vs. 1500 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the Range Rover Evoque uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Murano doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the Range Rover Evoque the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Murano can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard Passive Keyless Entry allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Intelligent Key standard on the Murano doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Range Rover Evoque’s power window, power lock and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Murano’s power window switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Range Rover Evoque’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Murano’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Murano doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Murano doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Murano offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Murano Platinum.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Murano SL/Platinum.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Nissan charges extra for Homelink® on the Murano.
