The AMG GLB’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Macan doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The AMG GLB has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Macan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the AMG GLB’s standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Active Brake Assist automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Macan doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Mercedes AMG GLB, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Macan.

The AMG GLB’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Macan’s standard 55 series front tires. Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the AMG GLB can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Macan doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The AMG GLB’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Macan doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The Mercedes AMG GLB may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 550 pounds less than the Porsche Macan.

The AMG GLB is 3 inches shorter than the Macan, making the AMG GLB easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Mercedes AMG GLB amounts to more than styling. The AMG GLB has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .35 Cd. That is lower than the Macan (.35 to .37). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the AMG GLB get better fuel mileage.

The AMG GLB offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Macan can only carry 5.

The Macan doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The AMG GLB offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Macan doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The AMG GLB’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Macan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The AMG GLB’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Macan’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
