2026 Maserati Grecale
2025 Mercedes GLE

Safety

Both the Grecale and GLE have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Grecale has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GLE’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Maserati Grecale has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GLE doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Grecale. But it costs extra on the GLE.

Both the Grecale and the GLE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Engine

The Grecale has more powerful engines than the GLE:

Horsepower

Torque

Grecale Modena V6 3.0 turbo V6

385 HP

368 lbs.-ft.

Grecale Trofeo 3.0 turbo V6

523 HP

457 lbs.-ft.

Grecale Folgore electric motors

542 HP

604 lbs.-ft.

GLE 350 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid

255 HP

295 lbs.-ft.

GLE 450 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid

375 HP

369 lbs.-ft.

GLE 450e 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid

381 HP

479 lbs.-ft.

GLE 580 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid

510 HP

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Grecale running on electricity gets better mileage than the GLE running on electricity:

MPGe

Grecale

AWD

20" Wheels Electric Motors

80 city/70 hwy

21" Wheels Electric Motors

65 city/59 hwy

GLE

AWD

450e Electric Motor

57 city/63 hwy

On the EPA test cycle the Grecale running its gasoline engine gets better mileage than the GLE running its gasoline engine:

MPG

Grecale

AWD

Trofeo 3.0 turbo V6

18 city/25 hwy

Modena V6 3.0 turbo V6

18 city/25 hwy

GLE

AWD

4.0 turbo V8 Hybrid

15 city/20 hwy

The Grecale can travel with zero emissions on electricity, only, on a full charge for 206 to 245 miles. The GLE 450e has to start its internal combustion engine after only 50 miles.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Grecale Trofeo’s fuel efficiency. The GLE doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Transmission

The Grecale Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The GLE doesn’t offer launch control.

Tires and Wheels

The Grecale Folgore’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GLE’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Grecale Folgore has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GLE.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Grecale uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GLE, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

Chassis

The Maserati Grecale may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 700 pounds less than the Mercedes GLE.

The Grecale Modena V6 is 3.5 inches shorter than the GLE, making the Grecale easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Grecale has 1 inch more front legroom and 2 inches more rear headroom than the GLE.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Grecale easier. The Grecale’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.8 inches, while the GLE’s liftover is 30.7 inches.

Towing

Trailer Sway Mitigation is standard on the Grecale, using the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the GLE.

Ergonomics

Consumer Reports rated the Grecale’s headlight performance “Fair,” a higher rating than the GLE’s headlights, which were rated “Poor.”
