Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Lamborghini Urus have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW XM doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lamborghini Urus are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW XM doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Urus and XM have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Urus has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The XM’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The XM doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Urus and the XM have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Urus comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The XM’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Lamborghini pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 5 visits) on the Urus for 2 years and 39000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the XM (5/75000 vs. 3/36,000).

Engine

The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 51 more horsepower (789 vs. 738) than the XM’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Urus SE running on electricity gets better mileage than the XM Label running on electricity (46 city/50 hwy vs. 47 city/46 hwy MPGe).

On the EPA test cycle the Urus SE running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the XM Label running its gasoline engine (19 city/21 hwy vs. 12 city/17 hwy).

The Urus SE can travel with zero emissions on electricity, only, on a full charge for 35 miles. The XM Label has to start its internal combustion engine after only 30 miles.

The Urus has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the XM (20.9 vs. 18.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Urus’ brake rotors are larger than those on the XM:

Urus

XM

Front Rotors

17.3 inches

16.5 inches

Rear Rotors

16.1 inches

15.7 inches

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The XM doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Urus has larger front standard tires than the XM (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. F:275/35R23 & R:315/30R23). The Urus’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XM (F:285/35R23 & R:325/30R23 vs. F:275/35R23 & R:315/30R23).

The Urus offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the XM; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Urus uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the XM, which uses coil springs in front. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Urus has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Urus’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The XM doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Urus Performante handles at 1.08 G’s, while the XM Label pulls only .97 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Urus Performante executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the XM Label (23.1 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 23.9 seconds @ .84 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Urus’ turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the XM’s (38.7 feet vs. 41 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Urus has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XM (9.8 vs. 8.7 inches), allowing the Urus to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Lamborghini Urus may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 pounds less than the BMW XM.

Passenger Space

The Urus has .5 inches more front headroom and 1.2 inches more front legroom than the XM.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Urus’ rear seats recline. The XM’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Urus has a much larger cargo volume than the XM with its rear seat up (21.8 vs. 18.6 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Urus easier. The Urus’ cargo hatch lift-over height is 30 inches, while the XM’s liftover is 32.8 inches.

The Urus’ standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. The XM’s standard single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Urus’ available liftgate can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The XM doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Urus’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the XM’s (7716 vs. 5952 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Urus’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The XM does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Urus’ standard keyless entry system allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Access standard on the XM doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Urus offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The XM doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Urus to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XM doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Economic Advantages

According to iSeeCars.com the 2025 Lamborghini Urus retains 65.87% of its original value after 5 years, significantly more than the 38.89% resale value of the 2025 BMW XM after five years, which can save the Lamborghini’s owner up to $18263.52261 in depreciation.
