2026 Volvo EX40
2026 Genesis Electrified GV70

Safety

The EX40 has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the EX40 and the Electrified GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The EX40’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the Electrified GV70’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 29 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the EX40’s warranty.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the EX40 has larger rear tires than the Electrified GV70 (255/45R19 vs. 235/55R19).

The EX40’s standard 235/50R19 front and 255/45R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Electrified GV70’s standard 55 series tires. The EX40’s optional 255/40R20 rear tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Electrified GV70 AWD Advanced/Prestige’s 45 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The EX40 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The EX40 Ultra handles at .87 G’s, while the Electrified GV70 Prestige pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

Chassis

The Volvo EX40 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 pounds less than the Genesis Electrified GV70.

The EX40 is 10.8 inches shorter than the Electrified GV70, making the EX40 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The EX40 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Electrified GV70 with its rear seat folded (57.5 vs. 56.5 cubic feet).

Towing

Optional Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the EX40 uses the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the EX40 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Electrified GV70 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the EX40 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX40 offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Volvo EX40 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Electrified GV70 Advanced/Prestige.

Model Availability

The EX40 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
