The EX40’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the EX40 and Blazer EV have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The EX40 Ultra has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Blazer EV’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The EX40 has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the EX40’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the EX40 and the Blazer EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The EX40 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Blazer EV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The EX40’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Blazer EV’s (12/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the EX40 for 2 years and 20,000 miles. Volvo will pay for cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Blazer EV.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Volvo vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Volvo 1 place higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The EX40 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Blazer EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The EX40’s standard 235/50R19 front and 255/45R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Blazer EV LT’s standard 60 series tires.

The EX40 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The EX40’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Blazer EV’s (55% to 45%). This gives the EX40 more stable handling and braking.

The EX40 AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the Blazer EV RS eAWD pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The EX40 AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the Blazer EV RS eAWD (26.3 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the EX40’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Blazer EV’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Volvo EX40 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 1100 pounds less than the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The EX40 is 1 foot, 5.4 inches shorter than the Blazer EV, making the EX40 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The EX40 has .2 inches more rear headroom and .8 inches more rear hip room than the Blazer EV.

A control in the cargo area automatically lowers the EX40’s optional rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the EX40. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The EX40’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Blazer EV’s (2000 vs. 1500 pounds).

While the Blazer EV RS eAWD SS is not recommended to tow, any EX40 can tow a minimum of 2000 pounds.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the EX40 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Chevrolet doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Blazer EV.

The EX40’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Blazer EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the EX40 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Blazer EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The EX40’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Blazer EV’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the EX40 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The EX40 offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the EX40 offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer cornering lights. The EX40 also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The EX40’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Blazer EV.

The Volvo EX40 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Blazer EV.

The EX40 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Blazer EV RS/SS.

The Volvo EX40 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Blazer EV RS/SS.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Volvo EX40 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Blazer EV.
