The ID.4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The ID.4 has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Full-time four-wheel drive is available on the ID.4. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Wagoneer S.

Both the ID.4 and Wagoneer S have rear cross-traffic warning, but the ID.4 has Rear Traffic Alert (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Wagoneer S’ Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the ID.4 and the Wagoneer S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The ID.4 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Wagoneer S’ 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Volkswagen’s powertrain warranty covers the ID.4 3 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jeep covers the Wagoneer S. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Wagoneer S ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The ID.4’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Wagoneer S’ (7 vs. 5 years).

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Volkswagen vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Volkswagen 1 place higher in reliability than Jeep.

The ID.4’s optional electric motors produces 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (536 vs. 524) than the Wagoneer S Limited 4dr Sport Utility’s standard electric motors.

On the EPA test cycle the ID.4 gets better mileage than the Wagoneer S:

The ID.4 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Wagoneer S doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better traction and acceleration, the ID.4 has larger rear tires than the Wagoneer S (255/45R20 vs. 235/50R20).

The ID.4 Pro S Plus AWD Pro S Plus’ 235/45R21 front and 255/40R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Wagoneer S’ 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the ID.4 Pro S Plus AWD Pro S Plus has standard 21-inch wheels. The Wagoneer S’ largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The ID.4 Pro S AWD handles at .86 G’s, while the Wagoneer S Limited 4dr Sport Utility pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the ID.4’s turning circle is 8.5 feet tighter than the Wagoneer S’ (31.5 feet vs. 40 feet). The ID.4 AWD’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the Wagoneer S’ (36.4 feet vs. 40 feet).

For greater off-road capability the ID.4 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Wagoneer S (6.9 vs. 6.4 inches), allowing the ID.4 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Volkswagen ID.4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 1100 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer S.

The ID.4 is 11.9 inches shorter than the Wagoneer S, making the ID.4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ID.4 has 2.6 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room and .5 inches more rear headroom than the Wagoneer S.

The ID.4 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 61 cubic feet).

A Service Interval Display is standard on the ID.4 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Jeep doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Wagoneer S.

If the windows are left open on the ID.4 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Wagoneer S can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Wagoneer S’ cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The ID.4 Pro S/Pro S Plus’ standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The ID.4 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Wagoneer S doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
