Safety

The Buick Enclave’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Genesis GV80 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Compared to metal, the Enclave’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis GV80 has a metal gas tank.

Both the Enclave and the GV80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Buick Enclave is safer than the Genesis GV80:

Warranty

There are almost 4 times as many Buick dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Enclave’s warranty.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Enclave has a standard 220-amp alternator. The GV80’s standard 150-amp alternator and largest (3.5T) 180-amp alternator aren’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick second in reliability, above the industry average. With 70 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked 22nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Buick vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Buick 13 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

Engine

The Enclave’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 28 more horsepower (328 vs. 300) and 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (326 vs. 311) than the GV80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Enclave gets better mileage than the GV80:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Buick Enclave uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GV80 2.5T requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Enclave has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The GV80 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Buick Enclave higher (6 out of 10) than the Genesis GV80 (5 to 6). This means the Enclave produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the GV80 every 15,000 miles.

Brakes and Stopping

The Enclave stops much shorter than the GV80:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Enclave’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV80 (275/45R22 vs. 265/40R22).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Enclave has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GV80.

The Buick Enclave’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Genesis GV80 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Enclave’s wheelbase is 4.6 inches longer than on the GV80 (120.9 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Enclave is 1.4 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the GV80.

The Enclave Avenir handles at .83 G’s, while the GV80 ADVANCED AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Passenger Space

The Enclave has 2.4 inches more front headroom, 2.7 inches more front legroom, 1.6 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear headroom, 2.8 inches more rear legroom, 3.8 inches more rear shoulder room, 4 inches more third row headroom, 1.8 inches more third row legroom and 4.6 inches more third row shoulder room than the GV80.

Cargo Capacity

The Enclave’s cargo area provides more volume than the GV80.

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Enclave uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 44% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 29th.

Ergonomics

The Enclave’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The GV80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

On a hot day the Enclave’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Enclave’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the GV80’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Enclave Avenir has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Enclave has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the GV80 SELECT/ADVANCED/PRESTIGE.

Recommendations

The Buick Enclave outsold the Genesis GV80 by 44% during 2025.
