To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the LS. But it costs extra on the Air.

The Lexus LS’ rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Lucid Motors Air does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

The LS has standard Safety Connect®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Air doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the LS and the Air have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

There are over 12 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Lucid Motors dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the LS’ warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LS’ reliability 58 points higher than the Air.

The LS’ 3.4 turbo V6 produces 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (442 vs. 406) than the Air Pure’s standard electric motor.

The LS stops shorter than the Air:

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LS has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Air.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Air doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the LS’ wheelbase is 6.5 inches longer than on the Air (123 inches vs. 116.5 inches).

The LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition handles at .83 G’s, while the Air Grand Touring pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The LS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Air doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The LS has .5 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear legroom and 1.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Air.

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the LS offers cargo security. The Air’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the LS. The Air doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the LS’ trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Air doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Air, the LS has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and climate settings and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The LS has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Air doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the LS the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Air can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Consumer Reports rated the LS’ headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Air’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LS has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Air doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The LS’ power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Air’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The LS’ standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Air has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The LS has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Air.
