Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LS have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW i7 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LS are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW i7 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the LS. But it costs extra on the i7.

The Lexus LS’ rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the BMW i7 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the LS and the i7 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LS 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than BMW covers the i7. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the i7 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

The LS’ tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the i7’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LS has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the i7.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The i7 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the LS AWD’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the i7’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.4 feet).

Chassis

The Lexus LS may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 to 1300 pounds less than the BMW i7.

The LS is 6.1 inches shorter than the i7, making the LS easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The LS has a much larger trunk than the i7 (17 vs. 11.4 cubic feet).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than BMW. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 24% lower rating, BMW is ranked 10th.

Ergonomics

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LS has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The i7 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Economic Advantages

According to iSeeCars.com the 2025 Lexus LS retains 51.31% of its original value after 5 years, significantly more than the 22.98% resale value of the 2025 BMW i7 after five years, which can save the Lexus’ owner up to $42297.36496 in depreciation.
