Safety

Both the ID.BUZZ and EQS SUV have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The ID.BUZZ has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The EQS SUV’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the ID.BUZZ and the EQS SUV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The ID.BUZZ’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the EQS SUV’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Volkswagen pays for scheduled maintenance on the ID.BUZZ for 2 years and 20,000 miles. Volkswagen will pay for cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EQS SUV.

There are over 64 percent more Volkswagen dealers than there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ID.BUZZ’s warranty.

Ergonomics

The ID.BUZZ’s standard sliding doors can be opened with less than three inches side clearance. The EQS SUV’s standard rear swing-out doors are bulky and make loading in tight spots difficult.

The ID.BUZZ has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the EQS SUV.

The ID.BUZZ has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The EQS SUV doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Recommendations

The ID.BUZZ was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025. The EQS SUV has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the ID.BUZZ as the 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The EQS SUV has never been chosen.
