To maximize occupant safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Aston Martin Vanquish have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Maserati GranTurismo doesn’t offer pretensioners.

The Aston Martin Vanquish has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Vanquish’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranTurismo.

The Vanquish has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the GranTurismo’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Vanquish has standard Rear Cross Traffic Assist, helping the driver avoid collisions. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the GranTurismo.

Both the Vanquish and the GranTurismo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Vanquish comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The GranTurismo’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The Vanquish’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo’s (10/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

The GranTurismo’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Vanquish has a 7000 RPM redline.

The Vanquish’s 5.2 turbo V12 produces 341 more horsepower (824 vs. 483) and 377 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 361) than the GranTurismo Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The Vanquish’s 5.2 turbo V12 produces 282 more horsepower (824 vs. 542) and 259 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 479) than the GranTurismo Trofeo’s standard 3.0 turbo V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the Aston Martin Vanquish is faster than the GranTurismo Trofeo:

The Vanquish has 3.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the GranTurismo (21.6 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Vanquish’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GranTurismo:

The Vanquish has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Vanquish stops much shorter than the GranTurismo:

For better traction, the Vanquish has larger tires than the GranTurismo (F:275/35R21 & R:325/30R21 vs. F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Vanquish has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch front wheels are available on the GranTurismo.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Vanquish is 1.3 inches wider in the front and .4 inches wider in the rear than on the GranTurismo.

The Vanquish Coupe handles at 1.00 G’s, while the GranTurismo Trofeo pulls only .97 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Vanquish Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GranTurismo Trofeo (23.3 seconds @ .94 average G’s vs. 24.1 seconds @ .84 average G’s).

The Vanquish uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Aston Martin Vanquish comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Maserati GranTurismo isn’t available as a convertible.
