Safety

The McLaren Artura has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The DBS doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Artura’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The DBS doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

Both the Artura and the DBS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The Artura comes with a full 5-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The DBS’ 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty expires 2 years sooner.

McLaren pays for scheduled maintenance on the Artura for 3 years and 27000 miles. McLaren will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Aston Martin doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the DBS.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Artura can travel with zero emissions for 21 miles. The DBS can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Artura’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The DBS doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Artura has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The DBS doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

The Artura offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DBS doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Artura’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s at 3200 in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The DBS doesn’t offer launch control.

Suspension and Handling

The Artura has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The DBS doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better maneuverability, the Artura’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the DBS’ (39.3 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

Chassis

The McLaren Artura may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 to 850 pounds less than the Aston Martin DBS.

The Artura is 6.8 inches shorter than the DBS, making the Artura easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The Artura is 6.9 inches shorter than the DBS 770 Ultimate Edition.

The Artura’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The DBS doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

Cargo Capacity

With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the Artura offers cargo security. The DBS’ non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

Ergonomics

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the Artura detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The DBS doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Artura offers an optional Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The DBS doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

Recommendations

The McLaren Artura outsold the Aston Martin DBS by over six to one during 2024.
