Both the GranTurismo and the AMG CLE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Safety
Engine
The GranTurismo Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 40 more horsepower (483 vs. 443) than the AMG CLE’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The GranTurismo Trofeo’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 99 more horsepower (542 vs. 443) and 66 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 413) than the AMG CLE’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.
As tested in Motor Trend the GranTurismo Trofeo is faster than the Mercedes AMG CLE:

Fuel Economy and Range
An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranTurismo’s fuel efficiency. The AMG CLE doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
The GranTurismo has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG CLE (18.5 vs. 17.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
Brakes and Stopping
For better stopping power the GranTurismo’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG CLE:

14.6 inches |
Tires and Wheels
The GranTurismo’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG CLE’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires. The GranTurismo’s tires are lower profile than the AMG CLE’s optional 35 series front tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranTurismo has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the AMG CLE. The AMG CLE’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.
Suspension and Handling
The front and rear suspension of the GranTurismo uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the AMG CLE, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The GranTurismo has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranTurismo’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The AMG CLE doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo’s wheelbase is 2.1 inches longer than on the AMG CLE (115.3 inches vs. 113.2 inches).
Chassis
The Maserati GranTurismo may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 400 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG CLE.
The front grille of the GranTurismo uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG CLE doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
Ergonomics
The GranTurismo’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG CLE does not have an oil pressure gauge.
The GranTurismo has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The AMG CLE doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.
