The Electrified GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The EV9 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The EV9’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

The Electrified GV70 has standard Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The EV9 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Electrified GV70’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the EV9’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EV9.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 228 more horsepower (429 vs. 201) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the EV9 Light Long Range’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 214 more horsepower (429 vs. 215) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the EV9 Light’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 50 more horsepower (429 vs. 379) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 443) than the EV9 Land/Wind’s standard electric motors. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 50 more horsepower (429 vs. 379) than the EV9 GT-Line’s standard electric motors.

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EV9 doesn’t offer launch control.

The Electrified GV70 stops shorter than the EV9:

For better traction, the Electrified GV70 has larger tires than the EV9 (265/45R20 vs. 255/60R19).

The Electrified GV70’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EV9’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Electrified GV70 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the EV9.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The EV9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Kia charges extra for Homelink® on the EV9.

The GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 2 more times in the last 3 years. The EV9 hasn’t been picked since 2024, and the EV9 has only been chosen once.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The EV9 has never been chosen.

The Genesis GV70 outsold the Kia EV9 by 31% during 2024.
