The Phantom has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The Taycan doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Phantom and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom weighs 452 to 1124 pounds more than the Porsche Taycan. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Phantom comes with a full 4-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Taycan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Rolls-Royce pays for scheduled maintenance on the Phantom for 2 years and unlimited miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Taycan (4/unlimited vs. 2/24,000).

The Phantom’s 6.8 turbo V12 produces 161 more horsepower (563 vs. 402) and 362 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 302) than the Taycan Performance Battery’s standard electric motor. An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a 2-speed automatic is available for the Taycan.

For better traction, the Phantom has larger standard tires than the Taycan (255/50R21 vs. 225/55R19).

The Phantom’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Phantom has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Taycan. The Phantom’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Taycan.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Phantom can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Taycan doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Phantom’s wheelbase is 25.6 inches longer than on the Taycan (139.8 inches vs. 114.2 inches). The Phantom EWB’s wheelbase is 34.3 inches longer than on the Taycan (148.5 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Phantom a Large car, while the Taycan is rated a Compact.

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the Phantom offers cargo security. The Taycan’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

If the windows are left open on the Phantom the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Phantom to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Taycan doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Laser headlights, standard on the Phantom, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Taycan’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Phantom has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the Phantom to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The Phantom has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Taycan doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the Phantom and the Taycan offer optional massaging front seats. The Phantom also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the Taycan.
