The GV80 Coupe’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Encore GX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the GV80 Coupe and Encore GX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The GV80 Coupe has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Encore GX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Encore GX doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Genesis GV80 Coupe achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Buick Encore GX has not been tested.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard Multi-Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Encore GX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GV80 Coupe has standard Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Encore GX doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GV80 Coupe. But it costs extra on the Encore GX.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the GV80 Coupe’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The Encore GX doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the GV80 Coupe and Encore GX have rear cross-traffic warning, but the GV80 Coupe has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Encore GX’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

The GV80 Coupe’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Encore GX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GV80 Coupe and the Encore GX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe weighs 1904 to 2136 pounds more than the Buick Encore GX. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Genesis GV80 Coupe is safer than the Buick Encore GX:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Genesis GV80 Coupe is safer than the Buick Encore GX:

The Genesis GV80 Coupe has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Encore GX is not even a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2025.

Warranty

The GV80 Coupe comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Encore GX’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 Coupe 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Buick covers the Encore GX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Encore GX ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The GV80 Coupe’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Encore GX’s (7/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV80 Coupe for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Buick doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Encore GX.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the GV80 Coupe has a standard 180-amp alternator (227-amp - GV80 Coupe e-Supercharged). The Encore GX’s 130-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

Engine

The GV80 3.5T Coupe’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 238 more horsepower (375 vs. 137) and 229 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 162) than the Encore GX’s standard 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder. The GV80 3.5T Coupe’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 220 more horsepower (375 vs. 155) and 217 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 174) than the Encore GX’s optional 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder. The GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger’s standard 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid produces 254 more horsepower (409 vs. 155) and 231 lbs.-ft. more torque (405 vs. 174) than the Encore GX’s optional 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder.

As tested in Car and Driver the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid is faster than the Buick Encore GX 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder:

Fuel Economy and Range

The GV80 Coupe has 7.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Encore GX (21.1 vs. 13.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard locking fuel cap which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Encore GX. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the GV80 Coupe’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Encore GX:

The GV80 Coupe’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Encore GX are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the GV80 Coupe has larger tires than the Encore GX (265/50R20 vs. 225/55R18). The GV80 Coupe’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Encore GX (265/50R20 vs. 245/45R19).

The GV80 Coupe’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Encore GX’s standard 55 series tires. The GV80 Coupe’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Encore GX’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 Coupe has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Encore GX. The GV80 Coupe’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Encore GX.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the Genesis GV80 Coupe has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Buick Encore GX has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The GV80 Coupe has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the GV80 Coupe flat and controlled during cornering. The Encore GX’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Encore GX’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The GV80 Coupe’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Encore GX doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80 Coupe’s wheelbase is 14.3 inches longer than on the Encore GX (116.3 inches vs. 102 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GV80 Coupe is 5 inches wider in the front and 5.2 inches wider in the rear than on the Encore GX.

The GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Encore GX Sport Touring AWD (27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s vs. 28.1 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the GV80 Coupe has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Encore GX (8.1 vs. 7.5 inches), allowing the GV80 Coupe to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger is quieter than the Encore GX AWD (66 vs. 67 dB).

Passenger Space

The GV80 Coupe has 14.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Encore GX (108.7 vs. 94.3).

The GV80 Coupe has .5 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front legroom, 4.8 inches more front hip room, 5.2 inches more front shoulder room, 2.7 inches more rear legroom, 5.5 inches more rear hip room and 4.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Encore GX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the GV80 Coupe’s rear seats recline. The Encore GX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The GV80 Coupe has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Encore GX with its rear seat up (29.3 vs. 23.5 cubic feet). The GV80 Coupe has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Encore GX with its rear seat folded (61.1 vs. 50.2 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the GV80 Coupe’s rear seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The Encore GX doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the GV80 Coupe. The Encore GX doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The GV80 Coupe’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Encore GX’s (6000 vs. 1000 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The GV80 Coupe uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Encore GX uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The engine in the GV80 Coupe is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Encore GX. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

The GV80 Coupe has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Encore GX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The GV80 Coupe’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Encore GX’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the GV80 Coupe the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Encore GX can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The GV80 Coupe’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Encore GX’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV80 Coupe to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Encore GX doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The GV80 Coupe’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Encore GX offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Genesis GV80 Coupe and Buick Encore GX offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The GV80 Coupe features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Encore GX’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The GV80 Coupe has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Encore GX. The GV80 Coupe also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Encore GX.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and rear seats keep the GV80 Coupe’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Encore GX doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Encore GX.

The GV80 Coupe has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Encore GX.

The GV80 Coupe has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Encore GX Avenir.

Both the GV80 Coupe and the Encore GX offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the GV80 Coupe has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Encore GX doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The Genesis GV80 Coupe has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Encore GX Avenir.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis GV80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Encore GX.

The GV80 Coupe’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Encore GX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
