In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Wagoneer S are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The ID.4 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Jeep Wagoneer S has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The ID.4 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

To allow off-road and deep snow capability, Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Wagoneer S. But it costs extra on the ID.4.

Both the Wagoneer S and the ID.4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Wagoneer S weighs 790 to 1408 pounds more than the Volkswagen ID.4. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Wagoneer S’ corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the ID.4’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

There are almost 4 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Volkswagen dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer S’ warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Volkswagen vehicles. With 41 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Jeep higher than Volkswagen.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Volkswagen With 77 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Jeep higher than Volkswagen.

Brakes and Stopping

The Jeep Wagoneer S has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Only rear drums come on the ID.4. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

Tires and Wheels

The Wagoneer S’ tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ID.4 Standard’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Wagoneer S has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the ID.4 Standard.

The Wagoneer S has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The ID.4 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

The Wagoneer S has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The ID.4’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Wagoneer S’ wheelbase is 4.2 inches longer than on the ID.4 (113 inches vs. 108.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Wagoneer S is 2 inches wider in the front and 2.9 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the ID.4.

The Wagoneer S’ front to rear weight distribution is more even (50.2% to 49.8%) than the ID.4’s (48% to 52%). This gives the Wagoneer S more stable handling and braking.

Passenger Space

The Wagoneer S has .2 inches more front legroom, 1 inch more front hip room, .4 inches more rear legroom, 7.7 inches more rear hip room and 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the ID.4.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Wagoneer S’ rear seats recline. The ID.4’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility has a larger cargo volume than the ID.4 with its rear seat up (30.6 vs. 30.3 cubic feet).

Payload and Towing

The Wagoneer S’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the ID.4’s (3500 vs. 2200 pounds).

The Wagoneer S has a higher standard payload capacity than the ID.4 (1033 vs. 959 lbs.).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the ID.4 S/S Plus, the Wagoneer S has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer S’ standard Keyless Enter-N-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. KESSY Keyless Access standard on the ID.4 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Wagoneer S has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the ID.4 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Wagoneer S has standard extendable sun visors. The ID.4 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Jeep Wagoneer S has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the ID.4 Pro S Plus.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Wagoneer S’ passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The ID.4 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Wagoneer S has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the ID.4 S/Plus.

Compared to the Volkswagen ID.4, the Jeep Wagoneer S eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the driver’s visor.

The Wagoneer S offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The ID.4 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Wagoneer S’ Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The ID.4’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Recommendations

The Jeep Wagoneer outsold the Volkswagen ID.4 by over three to one during 2024.
