The Cayenne’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The E-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Cayenne are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Porsche Cayenne has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Cayenne has a standard Multi-collision Brake System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Cayenne has standard Maneuver Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Cayenne helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Cayenne and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Porsche Cayenne weighs 753 to 1739 pounds more than the Jaguar E-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Cayenne’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the E-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 35 percent more Porsche dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Cayenne’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Cayenne’s reliability 37 points higher than the E-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Cayenne second among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The E-Pace isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated lower.

Engine

The Cayenne’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 102 more horsepower (348 vs. 246) and 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (368 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Cayenne E-Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 217 more horsepower (463 vs. 246) and 210 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Cayenne S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 222 more horsepower (468 vs. 246) and 173 lbs.-ft. more torque (442 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Cayenne GTS’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 247 more horsepower (493 vs. 246) and 217 lbs.-ft. more torque (486 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 483 more horsepower (729 vs. 246) and 431 lbs.-ft. more torque (700 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Cayenne’s standard fuel tank has 6 gallons more fuel capacity than the E-Pace (23.7 vs. 17.7 gallons).

The Cayenne has a standard locking fuel door and a locking charge port which lock and unlock with the power locks. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a locking fuel filler door. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Transmission

The Cayenne’s optional launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The E-Pace doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Cayenne’s brake rotors are larger than those on the E-Pace:

The Cayenne offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The E-Pace doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Cayenne Turbo has standard air brakes, which adjust the spoiler automatically during high-speed braking in order to shorten stopping distances. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air brakes.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Cayenne has larger standard tires than the E-Pace (F:255/55R20 & R:295/45R20 vs. 235/55R19). The Cayenne’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the E-Pace (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Cayenne’s standard 295/45R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the E-Pace’s standard 55 series tires. The Cayenne’s optional 285/40R22 front and 315/35R22 rear tires have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile than the E-Pace’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Cayenne has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the E-Pace. The Cayenne’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the E-Pace.

Suspension and Handling

The Cayenne has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The E-Pace’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Cayenne offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The E-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Cayenne offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the E-Pace.

The Cayenne has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Cayenne’s wheelbase is 8.4 inches longer than on the E-Pace (114 inches vs. 105.6 inches).

The Cayenne’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the E-Pace’s (58.7% to 41.3%). This gives the Cayenne more stable handling and braking.

The Cayenne handles at 1.02 G’s, while the E-Pace SE pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Cayenne S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 4.8 seconds quicker than the E-Pace SE (23.6 seconds @ .83 average G’s vs. 28.4 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Cayenne E-Hybrid has a greater minimum ground clearance than the E-Pace (8.2 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Cayenne to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid’s minimum ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher than on the E-Pace (9.5 vs. 8 inches).

Chassis

The front grille of the Cayenne uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The E-Pace doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Cayenne has .6 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front legroom, 3 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom, 6 inches more rear legroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the E-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Cayenne’s rear seats recline. The E-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Cayenne has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (27.3 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The Cayenne has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (60.3 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

The Cayenne’s cargo area is larger than the E-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

The Cayenne’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the E-Pace’s (7716 vs. 3968 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The engine in the Cayenne is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the E-Pace. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Porsche second in service department satisfaction. With a 25% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the E-Pace, the Cayenne offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and climate settings and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Cayenne’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The E-Pace does not have an oil pressure gauge.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Cayenne to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the E-Pace.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Cayenne offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The E-Pace doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Cayenne offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The E-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Cayenne also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Cayenne has standard dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The E-Pace doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Cayenne to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The E-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Cayenne’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Cayenne has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the E-Pace.

The Cayenne offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the E-Pace.

The Cayenne’s Active Parking Assistance can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The E-Pace doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Economic Advantages

The Cayenne will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Cayenne will retain 51.28% to 57.99% of its original price after five years, while the E-Pace only retains 51.25%.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Porsche Cayenne, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Jaguar E-Pace isn't recommended.

The Porsche Cayenne outsold the Jaguar E-Pace by over 66 to one during 2024.
