In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EQE Sedan are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Air doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The EQE Sedan has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Air doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The EQE Sedan’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The Air doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The EQE Sedan has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Air doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

The EQE Sedan has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Air doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the EQE Sedan and the Air have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

For better traction, the EQE Sedan has larger standard tires than the Air (255/40R20 vs. 245/45R19).

The EQE Sedan’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Air’s standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EQE Sedan has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Air.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the EQE Sedan can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Air doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The EQE Sedan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The EQE Sedan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Air doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The EQE Sedan’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Air doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the EQE Sedan’s wheelbase is 6.3 inches longer than on the Air (122.8 inches vs. 116.5 inches).

The AMG EQE handles at .99 G’s, while the Air Grand Touring pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The AMG EQE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1 seconds quicker than the Air Grand Touring (23.8 seconds @ .83 average G’s vs. 24.8 seconds @ .8 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the EQE Sedan w/10° Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 3.9 feet tighter than the Air’s (35.1 feet vs. 39 feet).

The EQE Sedan has .5 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear legroom and 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the Air.

With its sedan body style, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the EQE offers cargo security. The Air’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the EQE Sedan’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Air doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Air, the EQE Sedan has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The EQE Sedan offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Air doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the EQE Sedan the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Air can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer fluid is optional on the EQE Sedan to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Air doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

Consumer Reports rated the EQE Sedan’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Air’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

The EQE Sedan’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Air’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The EQE Sedan’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Air has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.
