The AMG GT 4-Door’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The M5 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW M5 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG GT 4-Door has Car-to-X, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The M5 doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and M5 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG GT 4-Door has Rear Cross Traffic Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The M5’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the M5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The M5 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The AMG GT 4-Door 63 S E’s standard fuel tank has 3.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the M5 (19 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The AMG GT 4-Door’s standard fuel tank has 5.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the M5 (21.1 vs. 15.9 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is available on the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the M5.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s optional 275/35R21 front and 315/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the M5’s 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG GT 4-Door offers optional 21-inch wheels. The M5’s largest wheels are only 20-inches in the front and 21-inches in the rear.

The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The M5 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The M5 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the M5’s (40 feet vs. 41.3 feet).

The Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 850 pounds less than the BMW M5.

The AMG GT 4-Door has .2 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more rear headroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the M5.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG GT 4-Door to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The M5 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard extendable sun visors. The M5 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door and the BMW M5 have a standard Qi wireless phone charging system in the front seat. To easily keep personal devices charged in the rear seat, without cables tangling and wearing out, the AMG GT 4-Door also has a standard wireless charging system in the rear seat. The M5 does not.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The M5 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
