Fuel Economy and Range

The MC20 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the MC20 has larger rear tires than the AMG SL (305/30R20 vs. 285/40R19).

The MC20’s 245/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL 43’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the MC20 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the AMG SL 43.

Suspension and Handling

The MC20 Cielo handles at 1.05 G’s, while the AMG SL 55 pulls only 1.04 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the MC20’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the AMG SL 55/63’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The MC20’s turning circle is 4 feet tighter than the AMG SL 43’s (38.7 feet vs. 42.7 feet).

Chassis

The Maserati MC20 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 1200 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG SL.

The MC20’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

Model Availability

The Maserati MC20 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.
