Both the Quattroporte and the S-Class have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Safety
Engine
The Quattroporte’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 15 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 413) than the S 500 4MATIC’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.
Fuel Economy and Range
On the EPA test cycle the Quattroporte Ultima gets better fuel mileage than the Maybach S 680 6.0 turbo V12 4MATIC running its gasoline engine (17 city/25 hwy vs. 12 city/20 hwy).
The Quattroporte has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the S-Class 580e’s standard fuel tank (21.1 vs. 17.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
The Quattroporte has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The S-Class doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Transmission
The Quattroporte Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S-Class doesn’t offer launch control.
Tires and Wheels
For better traction and acceleration, the Quattroporte has larger rear tires than the S-Class (285/30R21 vs. 255/45R19). The Quattroporte’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the S-Class (285/30R21 vs. 265/35R21).
The Quattroporte’s 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S-Class’ standard 45 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Quattroporte has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the S-Class.
The Quattroporte has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the S-Class; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the S-Class don’t have a run-flat feature, either.
Chassis
The Maserati Quattroporte may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 1250 pounds less than the Mercedes S-Class.
The front grille of the Quattroporte uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The S-Class doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
Passenger Space
The Quattroporte has 2.1 inches more front hip room and 4.7 inches more front shoulder room than the S-Class Sedan.
Cargo Capacity
The Quattroporte has a much larger trunk than the S-Class Sedan (18.7 vs. 12.8 cubic feet).
The Quattroporte’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The S-Class doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.
Ergonomics
The Quattroporte’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The S-Class does not have an oil pressure gauge.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Quattroporte has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The S-Class doesn’t offer headlight washers.
