Safety
Fuel Economy and Range
The Quattroporte has a gallon more fuel capacity than the AMG S-Class (21.1 vs. 20.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
The Quattroporte has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Tires and Wheels
The Quattroporte’s 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG S-Class’ standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires. The Quattroporte’s tires are lower profile than the AMG S-Class’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Quattroporte has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the AMG S-Class.
The Quattroporte has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG S-Class; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.
Suspension and Handling
For better maneuverability, the Quattroporte’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the AMG S-Class’ (38.7 feet vs. 40.4 feet).
Chassis
The Maserati Quattroporte may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1500 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG S-Class.
The front grille of the Quattroporte uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
Cargo Capacity
The Quattroporte has a much larger trunk than the AMG S-Class (18.7 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).
The Quattroporte’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.
Ergonomics
The Quattroporte’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG S-Class does not have an oil pressure gauge.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Quattroporte has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG S-Class doesn’t offer headlight washers.
